The purpose of this page is to show off our newest patients. These are mostly cute puppies and kittens, with the occasional rabbit, small mammal, lizard, or turtle. Check back regularly if you like cute babies! Be sure to scroll down to see them all. If your pet is on this page, we apologize that we occasionally have to remove some pictures that have been up for a while to make room for new ones.
If we took your pet's picture and you don't see it here but would like it here, just call the office and let us know. We'll do our best to oblige.

"Jack" McDonnell is a Saint Bernard puppy who 8 weeks old when this picture was taken. He was adopted along with his sister "Dolly" (below). There were 10 puppies in the litter, all 1-2 lbs when born. At 10 weeks old, they're about 26 lbs already! They rip through dog toys quickly and have moved on to durable adult toys like Nylabones and tough material stuffed toys.

"Dolly" McDonnell is a Saint Bernard puppy who was 10 weeks old when this picture was taken. She was adopted along with her brother, "Jack" (above). Dolly prefers playing with a toy shark while Jack has his own toy crocodile. The two wrestle with each other all the time and are very friendly in general. They love kids and are gentle with people. Such sweet additions to a great family! Look how much growth is evident in just 2 weeks!

"Roxie" Blanton is an adorable 10-week-old Border Collie from an excellent breeder who actually wrote instruction manuals for sheep herding and service dog training. She comes from great lines. Roxie loves to play in the snow, and will slide down small hills and bury her face in snow drifts. In typical puppy fashion, Roxie loves everybody and chases their shoes, socks and laces. She's a good, sound sleeper.

"Sparky" Nielsen is an adorable 12-week-old Golden Retriever. He enjoys playing with his older sister "Lizzy." Sparky recently learned to "sit" and "come" with the help of his favorite treats from Trader Joes.

January 9, 2012 "Leia" Scarleski is a 10-week-old Bugg (Boston Terrier/Pug mix) who came to the Scarleski home on Christmas day. She loves all of her toys, including those that belong to the kids. She goes at 90 mph for an hour, then is exhausted and needs a long nap to recover. After that she starts all over again. Yes, she is named after the Star Wars princess.

"Sam" Schoenfield is one of two 7-month-old Domestic Shorthair Kittens. Sam is fascinated by the sink and dashes to it whenever it is on; he also lies in the sink and doesn't care if the water gets turned on and he gets wet. He watches TV and favors animal shows; once he was crying at the lions on his TV show.

"Mia" Schoenfield is the other one of two 7-month-old Domestic Shorthair Kittens. She likes to chase feet, especially when she is under the couch or chair the person with the feet is sitting in. She tries all the bedroom doors at night until she finds one that is ajar and lets herself in to sleep with the family. She jumps at dust motes in sunbeams.

"Diane" Hamilton is an 18-month-old Domestic Shorthair cat who was adopted from a rescue organization along with a younger little brother, "Tommy." She's mischievous, bold and loves to explore when she isn't napping in the sun beam in the bay window. She likes to sit on top of the refrigerator while her new family cooks dinner, and thinks the artificial Christmas tree is a playground just for her. She's a good big sister to Tommy.

"Winston" Markert is a tiny 9-week-old Chihuahua. His new family has a big sister, "Baby," a 7-year-old, 4-pound Chihuahua who is scared of little Winston. She stays up on the couch and barks at him but won't come down to play. When Winston is locked safely in his crate, she'll stand in front and growl at him, but there's no doubt they'll be good friends once they get to know each other. Winston's favorite toy is a plush bone as big as he is; when he shakes it in his mouth the weight of it makes him roll over. His visit today wore him out.

"Hunter" Pavlova is a 4-month-old English Pointer. He watches TV and his favorite shows are kid's cartoons with action and bouncy music; he'll watch fro 20 minutes straight. His favorite toy is a cloth duck. Hunter already has started pointing at squirrels and birds in the yard.

While not a new patient, "Tory" Black is a favorite. She's an 8-year-old Red-footed Tortoise who is very friendly and personable; she doesn't hide in her shell. She suffered an attack from a dog who thought she was some weird kind of animated bone last year, but the wounds to her shell were superficial and now are fully healed. She spends the summers in an outside pen but is brought in at night to keep her safe.

“Naketa “ Johnson is a 1-year-old White’s Treefrog, also
known as the Dumpy Treefrog due to their chubby body type. She lives with another frog in a large terrarium
with lots of plants and a bark wall and mulch.
White’s Treefrogs come from Australia and New Guinea, and are docile and
hardy and one of the most popular species of frogs kept as pets.

"Pumpkin" Flores is a 14-week-old Shar Pei puppy. She steals food from Rambo, her adult Husky big brother, and chases him around the house. Her favorite toy is whatever Rambo has in his mouth; otherwise she likes rawhides. She snores a lot with all her extra skin, so loud that she wakes her owners up.

"Roman" Frey is a 5-month-old Golden-doodle (Golden Retriever/Standard Poodle mix). He loves to play with the cat Zoe but she's not too sure about him yet. His playful attitude might be too much for her! He also loves to burrow himself into things but will not sleep in the cozy bed his new family got for him; he prefers the cool floor. Roman has a lot of normal puppy-like qualities including playfulness, curiosity and clumsiness!

This regal puppy is a brand new Dogue de Bordeaux or French Mastiff (the dog in Turner and Hooch). She just came home to the Schuster house a few hours ago and is yet to be named. She was one of 10 puppies in the litter and loved to play tug of war with her sister. She was pick of the litter due to her size and bone structure. She climbs on and sniffs "Max," her new 9-year old Labrador big brother and he seems happy about it, wagging his tail the whole time.

"Ginger" Meier is a 7-week-old Border Collie. She has a pirate eye patch, and has two sisters with the same all-white color but their eye patch is on the other eye. She's smart like all Border Collies and mastered the stairs on the first day. She arranged two slippers into a bed on the kitchen floor so she could nap in comfort while her family was in there.

"Billy" Bouwens is a 10-week old Domestic Shorthair Tabby. He's full of energy and loves to chase his feather toys and laser pointer. He also likes to climb his owner's leg as if it were a tree. Lexi, the adult cat, doesn't like him yet because he hasn't accepted her as queen of the manor and doesn't treat her with the respect that she feels she deserves.

"Zeke" Gayle, a 16-month-old Doberman Pinscher isn't exactly new but we never put his photo up before and he deserves recognition. His favorite "toys" are Zoe and Zuma, his Dobie brother and sister. Zeke is very sweet and mellow but has spurts of energy where he jumps over the back of the couch like a gazelle. He passed his Therapy Dog training and is now certified as a Therapy Dog - way to go, Zeke!

Saint (last name omitted) came to live with his family about 6 weeks ago. He is a service dog, and they got him from an agency where dogs are trained to assist people with disabilities. This particular agency gets their service dogs from a women's penitentiary, where they are trained by inmates. Saint's trainer worked with him since he was a puppy. He brought her affection and a sense of meaning, while she ultimately brought him to his new life where he will be loved and appreciated. Saint is a 2 year-old Labrador/Weimaraner mix, and he is eager to please. He listens well and is by his mother's side constantly. He seems very happy in his new home.

"Athena" Korshak is an 8-week-ol Bull Terrier. She's only been home for a few days but is affectionate and loveable. She likes to bury her face in everything and her favorite toy is a huge cloth sushi roll. She belongs to our Kristy, so you may see Athena behind the desk now and again.

"Derbi" Woodward is a 17-week-old Domestic Shorthair, born to feral barn cats, but adopted at a young age and she is superbly socialized. She goes wild, with a first leap in control, the second leap losing control, and the third leap out of control, often random or sideways or landing on one of the dogs. She loves to torment Chloe, her big sister.

"Kipper" Woodward is a 3-year-old Greyhound and is Derbi's (above) big sister of sorts. She loves to swim and runs full-Greyhound-speed to dive in, then paddles and snorkels and wallows like a hippo. She loves to play with the puppies at the dog park and they take turns chasing each other. She's very sweet and gentle; you can see it in this picture.

This soon-to-be-named 2 to 3-year-old Pug was adopted by the Chmieleski family just 15 minutes ago after he was abandoned in a co-worker's yard. He's very calm and friendly. He sat in his new owner's lap in the first 30 seconds confirming his status as a lap dog.

"George", "Meow," and "Baby Ruth" (left to right) Barten are 8-week-old Domestic Shorthair kitten littermates. It only took a couple days for them to figure out how to climb over the gates that locked them in their play room. They play with a ribbon on the end of a stick; one grabs the end, one gets the middle and one gets the top, working as a team. They all have loud motors and love to be cradled like a baby. The adorable kitties belong to Dr. B's brother's family.

“Scout” K. (name withheld) is an 11-week-old Boxer mix. He came from Missouri through a local rescue
organization and his favorite toy is a red Frisbee, of which he is
possessive. Their 2-year-old daughter
climbed into his puppy bed, elbowed him out of the way, and stretched out with
arms behind her head and legs crossed.
Scout came back and forced her out to get his bed back.

"Toni" Shearer is a Three-toed Box Turtle, so called because this species has three toes on the hind foot instead of four like most turtles. Toni likes to watch television!

"Salem" Emrud is a 17-week-old Domestic Longhair Kitten. She loves to snuggle in her owner's neck. She's also a big talker and meows replies to her owner when she is spoken to. Her kitty big sister, Eeks, is getting along better with her after a month, but Salem is VERY playful.

"Ricky" Waitley is an 11-week-old Golden-Doodle (Golden Retriever/Standard Poodle Mix). He gets along well with Lucy, his 5-year-old Golden Retiever new sister. When Lucy reaches her tolerance level with Ricky, she jumps onto the couch and teases him from up there. When Ricky reaches his tolerance point with Lucy, Ricky hides UNDER the couch, but Lucy guards the exit so he has to eventually get past her.

"Petey" Buehler is a two-year-old Chihuahua mix. He was abandoned in Lake County and adopted through a rescue organization. He's named after the dog with the eye ring on the old TV show "Little Rascals." Petey likes to steal the daughter's socks and likes to bark back at dogs who bark on TV.

"Blake" Manke is a 5-month-old Labrador retriever Mix. He was just adopted two days ago and is already neutered. Blake likes to help with the gardening by digging holes and fertilizing it.

"CC" Heidloff is a tiny, 10-week-old Teddy Bear puppy; that's a designer cross between a Shih Tsu and a Bichon Frise. She plays with her dog bed by pouncing on it and throwing it in the air, only to disappear under it when it lands. She chases one daughter around the trampoline on the ground, lap after lap, with ears flapping until she is exhausted. She also loves to chase big beach balls.

"Roxy" Larkin is a 5-year-old Blue healer who was adopted from a rescue organization. She's a happy dog who always looks like she's smiling. Her favorite toy is a peanut butter-flavored Tuff Ball. She's very kind and gentle with the kids.

"Bingo" Zinni is a 10-week-old Maltese. He was just adopted and he has already made himself at home with his sister and brother, Babbette and Jacques. He terrorizes Babbette, but Jacques loves having a brother to rough house with.

"Happy" Huh is a 5-month old Pomeranian. He jumps very high and somersaults in midair. He acts like a hamster by hoping up on his owner's legs and climbing into their laps to cuddle. His favorite toy is a puffy white rabbit.

"Finneas" Nagel is a 14-week-old Yorkie Mix. He joins a family of 3 older dogs: Nebs, Peanut and Rascal. He follows them everywhere and irritates them by constantly trying to play. His favorite toy is his own leash, which he carries in his mouth as he takes himself for a walk.

"Smudge" Klaus is a 9-week-old English Setter. She's named for the dark smudges in her coat, which is her normal color. She cocks her head when she listens like she's really interested, as she's doing in the picture. She loves chasing leaves that blow in the wind, and her favorite toy is an empty plastic water bottle that crinkles when she bites it.

"Sharpie" Ahlstrand is a 9-week-old Domestic Shorthair kitten. He loves to walk on narrow objects requiring balance, like a kid walking in a railroad track rail. He climbed into the dishwasher to volunteer for the prewash cycle. All he wants to do is snuggle; Mr. works at home and he climbs on him and loves him to where he can't do his work. He sleeps on the Mrs' head.

"Sherman" Higgins is a 12-month-old Basset Hound Mix. He's a rescue and was originally ruled non-adoptable. Exposed to distemper virus as a puppy, he has seriously eroded tooth enamel and nearly constant twitching and tremors. Nevertheless he is functional and friendly and happy. He loves his sister "Nell" (below) and likes to ball up his bedding to make a nest when he goes to bed.

"Nell" Higgins is a 24-month-old Basset Hound mix who came home with "Sherman" (above) She's friendly but very shy; here she's hiding behind the exam table. She warmed up to the treats we gave her. She loves "Sherman" and the kitties, and the kitties would probably like her better if she didn't chase them all the time.

“Little Prince” Quintana is a
two-year-old Guinea Pig with a Mohawk that is representative of the attitude he
sometimes shows at home. He came from a rescue
and joins two other pigs, Chin-Chin and Queenie. Little Prince has a very full personality.
One night his owner was getting ready to put the pigs away for bedtime, and he
looked at her, let out a grunt and ran away.
Like any child, he was protesting going to bed.

The Zuercher-Lull family was looking to adopt two dogs from a rescue, hopefully siblings, about a year old, already housebroken. What they found was a trio of Labrador mix puppies, now 10 weeks old, and it was love at first sight. This is "Jett." He has a brother "Thor" and sister "Zante." They're a happy family that loves to play tug of war, wrestle with each other and chew mom's shoes.

"Scarlett" Shedor is a 12-week-old Irish Terrier who came from the same breeder as the owners' previous dog, Cooder. They are very pleased to know that Scarlett might be related to their old friend. Scarlett came home in the same car in which Cooder came home back in 1997: a 1974 Triumph. Her favorite toy so far is a stuffed mink, and she pounces on it every day. She is a sweet and smart puppy, she likes to cuddle on the couch and already comes to the call of her name.

"Dash" Krohn is a 6-year-old Sulcata (African Spur-thighed) Tortoise. She was a rescue whose first owner thought she was cute but didn't bother to research her needs. An inadequate diet of lettuce and bananas resulted in a deformed and stunted shell, but tortoises are hardy and with better care Dash really bounced back. She now enjoys excellent husbandry and a balanced diet high in hay and grasses. Her shell is rigid and her muscle tone is excellent. She only weighs 12 pounds due to her poor early start; healthy adults often top 100 pounds. This is not a "beginner" pet.

"Maggie" Blomgren is an 11-week-old Miniature Schnauzer. She has been living with her new family for about 3 weeks now. She has a housemate named Leo the cat who is about 3 times bigger than she is right now, and they are slowly making friends. Maggie has a large mallard duck toy that she loves to play catch with even though she has to drag it back to her owner.

"Cecil" Weiler is a 9-year-old Red-eared Slider turtle. We palpated something hard in her abdomen and thought it might be ingested gravel from the bottom of her tank, so we took a radiograph. This is what we saw.
She has eggs! She does not have a boyfriend, but turtles can produce infertile eggs without a male present, just as chickens can do.

"Rudie" Shen is a 13-week-old English Springer Spaniel. The breeder chose Christmas-themed names for the December litter and his original name was "Rudolph." He has a cleft lip but it is mild and doesn't seem to bother him. He plays well with his older sister Jackie, another Springer. His favorite toy is a purple squeaky lizard.

"Charlie" Gilpin is a rescued Domestic Shorthair cat estimated to be three years old by the shelter but we think he's closer to one. He's the friendliest cat in the world and loves everyone he meets with no reservations. The Gilpins wanted a black cat but Charlie jumped up on them and won them over with affection. He rides around on their shoulders like a pirate's parrot all day. Oscar, the resident feline, is already making friends with Charlie after only two days.

"Taz" McCraw is an 11-week-old Pitbull who came from a coworker whose dog had puppies. He's a very sweet puppy. Mrs. and the son wanted a puppy more than Mr. did, but Taz's sweet disposition won him over. The son loves Taz and plays with him a lot.

"Smokey" (left) and "Cuddles" Grost are 16-week-old Russian Blue mix sister kittens. Smokey likes her cloth disc throw toy while Cuddles prefers catnip mice and her ball with a bell inside. They like to hide out of sight under the covers on the bed, then spring out when their owner sits on the bed.

"Joxer" Pierce is an 11-week-old Longhair Dachshund. He's low to the ground and looks like someone is driving him with a remote. The first time he saw his reflection in the dishwasher it really startled him; he started barking and running around trying to figure out who this new dog was. Joxer joins 11 year old pomeranian Xena and although she is unsure of him he doesn't mind her one bit.

"Penny" Palmer is a 19-month-old Cava-poo (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Toy Poodle mix). She originally went from a breeder to a family with a complex situation that resulted in poor Penny being caged all the time, until the Palmers met her and fell in love and gave her a new home. She's super friendly and affectionate to everyone - dogs, cats and people. She especially bonded with Lewey, their 6-year-old Papillon.

"Princesa" Zorn is a 19-month-old Shih Tzu. She was originally owned by the granddaughter, but Princesa does better in a one-dog, one-person household, and seemed stressed with 5 grandkids. Lita (Grandma) adopted her and is taking wonderful care of her until her granddaughter is ready to have a dog again. Princesa says, "I am happy with my Lita but I am ready to go back anytime to my mommy Sophia."

"Hollywood" (Holly for short) Nice is an 8-week-old Australian Shepherd (with different colored eyes) who came from a breeder four hours away just yesterday. She was a surprise for the two young daughters who were expecting an American Girl doll instead, but they decided they like Holly better. Holly licked her new Dad on the face, so the younger daughter came over and licked his face too.

"Winnie" Engstrom is a 10-week-old Domestic Longhair kitten. She's a typical playful kitten who loves to hide, jump and chew on anything she can. She especially loves the climbing the Christmas tree! This is her owners first kitten and they are enjoying watching her grow.

"Mozart" Stanley is a 16-week-old Golden-Doodle (Golden Retriever/Standard Poodle Mix). He just came home yesterday, and his new favorite toy is a blue ball that can have treats roll out of it. He chased the ball under a chair, and went under the chair and over the crossbar of the chair, creating his own puppy obstacle course. He's very bright, but also calm and also friendly and sweet.

"Tigger" Wilson is an 8-month-old Domestic Shorthair kitty who, like many kitties, squints at the camera autofocus beam so we can't get a photo with his eyes open. He purrs constantly, even in the hospital when we tried to listen to his heart. He's a big boy with giant paws, a super soft coat and a crazy long tail. His favorite toy is a crinkle fish with feathers; he likes to take feathers off anything that has them.

"Kumari" Carbol is a 4-month-old African Hedgehog. Her owner is very experienced with hedgehogs and works with a skilled breeder. She spends a lot if time taming her pets so they don't roll into a ball at the drop of a hat. She knows about their special needs for housing and nutrition; hedgehogs are insectivores, not carnivores. If you choose an exotic pet, make sure you do your homework - like Ms. Carbol - before bringing it home.

This stray puppy was adopted by the Carlsons just an hour ago and they need to get to know her a little better before they choose a name. She has no history but weighs 22 pounds and is only about 12 weeks old, so she's going to grow into the huge feet she has. She has a docked tail and looks like some kind of hunting dog mix. She's really friendly and outgoing.

"Tosh" Finch is a 2-year-old Hound Dog Mix who came from a rescue. He came with the name "Tosh," which is short for Macintosh and not the comedian. He loves to run and bounds through tall grass like a deer or a gazelle. He's very friendly and calm, but very athletic. If he gets off leash, he's gone and only comes back when he's worn out.

“Boo” Friedenberg is a
9-week-old Golden Doodle (Golden Retriever/Standard Poodle Mix). He just came home two days, but has already settled in,
especially with Ramie, his elderly Bichon sister. Ramie has taken to sleeping with Boo just as
she used to do with her older sister when she was a puppy.

"Payton" Mathis is an 11-week-old Blue Healer who was named after Sweetness, Walter Payton. She's going to get her own Chicago Bears jersey for game day. Her favorite toy is a Bobo football player, which she carries all around the house. She likes to jump on the bed and wake her owner up early every morning.
