 HOSPITAL TOUR

WELCOME TO VERNON HILLS ANIMAL HOSPITAL

Our hospital is a free standing building on the west side of Butterfield Road north of Town Line Road and south of both Allanson Road and the railroad tracks.  Located on 2 acres, we have ample free parking.  The hospital is shaded by two huge maple trees so we get our share of leaves in the fall.

Our reception area is well lit and spacious.  The double doors to the left of the reception desk lead to the smaller exam room and the treatment and surgery areas in the back.  In the image on the bottom, the front door and the door to the larger exam room are visible.

The examination/consultation rooms all have computers connected to the central server so records and images are available in every room.  Cabinets and drawers contain our equipment and handout materials.  The small refrigerator is for vaccines and medications.  There are x-ray viewers on the wall and a scale that goes up to 300 pounds in case we get any really big pets.  Note the jar of Pup-Peroni treats on the counter.  We try to spoil all of our canine friends with treats so they look forward to coming to the vet.

Our surgery room has a tilting, heated surgery table and all the machines that go "ping" (obscure Monty Python reference to modern anesthetic monitoring equipment).  The monitor shows a continuous readout on a flat screen of the patient's ECG, respiration, blood pressure, body temperature, O2 levels and CO2 levels.  We use Sevoflurane gas anesthesia, central oxygen supply, anesthetic gas scavenging system, halogen surgery lights and a surgical laser.  Our ultrasound machine is visible in the back right corner.
We have a dedicated dental area with dental x-rays and a central dental unit that includes an ultasonic scaler, high speed burr and polisher.  Dental problems are among the most common problems we see in dogs and cats and we focus on their treatment.
No Description This is our pharmacy and laboratory area, with commonly prescribed drugs, microscope and centrifuges.

While we don't do any boarding, hospitalized dog and day admissions enjoy spacious 3 by almost 6-foot runs.  each dog gets a thick, quilted pad for comfort, and we use a Bair Hugger hot air blanket to keep surigcal patients toasty warm post-op.  The back door leads to a securely fenced exercise and potty area.
